Hey guys,
I know this topic has been discussed previously, but here's my own personal problem.
In another post, I mentioned that my tranny has started to act up in the 2-3 gear shift.. it crunches before it slides into 3rd.. WTF? I didn't do it beofer, and started toa ct up last week, its getting worse and worse to doing it almost everytime now, even double clutching doesn't resolve it..
I switched the tranny fluid over to Mobil 1 Synthetic over the weekend and it still does the same thing.. ACK
Whats wrong?? 20k miles on a 99 GSR!! this a B.S.!! I'm worries to take it in under warrenty cause it turbocharged...
I believe that they should/will cover it underwarrenty, but I'm think that will pose another porblem for the future with i DO have engine problems, cause they will remember me having a turbo on the car when i came in with tranny problems.. and they won't cover it then.. right? Even if i were to remove the turbo before i brought it in when/if i have future engine problems...
Here was a thought i had, just screw the GSR tranny and buy an ITR tranny and call it good.. What are your thoughts on that? How much does an ITR tranny go for? And how much can I sell my GSR tranny for? Is it a striaght swap? Or do i need to do any conversion/parts etc..
Thanks for your advice!

Yes the price of a Type R and a GSR tranny is the same if you price it from Acura. If you are going to do it swap the 5th gear from your GS-R tranny to the Type R (then you get great speed in the lower 4 gears and a top gear for highway driving. But if you are going to get a new tranny get the Type R since it comes with a LSD in it from the factory. They are a direct swap for each other no changes necessary.
later,
Will

AhAA Great.. thanks for the tip.. so how much does one run from Acura anyways? how much new, how much used? I can get them at dealer prices. so kinda want a comparison here.. THanks...
Oh and how difficult is it to perform the swap?

Does it grind even when you try rev matching? I wonder if it isn't one of those clutch disc springs that tend to break free.

Well ya, it grinds even when i rev match i'm i'm pretty damn good at it.. it grinds on the up and down shift.. rev match, double clutch everything.. it does it about 95% of the time.. unless i let the R's drop to like 2-3k...
If it were the clutch, wouldn't it do it in EVERY gear? not just 3rd? this sucks.. anyone know how much a 3rd gear synchro is? and how hard it is to replace?>

My car does the same damned thing, grinds in third at around 6000 RPM or whenver I rev it up high and shift swiftly, I too am thinking about a type R tranny, but they are hard to come by, and the dealers probably want 1000+ for one!
My car started doing it when I had 17000 miles on the car! now I have 20

I have seen them for 1395$ new from Acura but a GS-R tranny is also 1395$ Go figure!!
If you haven't gotten a LSD yet, then a Type R tranny would be the way to go.

correct, you will still be in full boost and even though you will have less torque because of qearing, if you can't get it to the ground now, it will help. You need to check to see if the LS will bolt right up, not sure, but I think it will.
anyone else got any knowledge on LS tranny bolt information to a GS-R?

Well, I'm not sure if this helps as I have a 90 ls teg, but when I shift at redline, which is about 6500, the rpms drop to about 4k. It's between a 2200 and a 2500 rpm drop. I'm not sure if the gap will get longer as your car revs higher than mine. Also, the clutch on a ls tranny is cable ran. I believe the gsr is hydraulic. I've heard that Jotech is using a gsr engine with a ls tranny but I don't know how reliable the source was.
